Explore Harriman: Adventure in the Trail Town Corridor!
Welcome to Suffern where we are very fortunate to be nestled at the southern most point of Harriman State Park. There’s an abundance of hiking trails in the area beginning with our own Suffern-Bear Mountain (SBM) Trail. A quick 20 minute hike up the trail rewards the hiker with sweeping views of Suffern, Mahwah and onward toward the NYC skyline on the horizon. Northward, the trail extends 23.5 rugged miles to Bear Mountain, making it the longest trail in Harriman-Bear Mountain State Park.
The trail head is situated within walking distance of our train station and main street. Just follow the painted yellow trail blazes (scroll down for transportation and parking info). For technical details on the SBM Trail and others, click NY/NJ Trail Conference or you can visit NYNJTC at 600 Ramapo Valley Road, in Mahwah, NJ, just under 4 miles from Suffern. Be sure to pick up a Harriman Bear Mountain Map.
Another fantastic website to visit is My Harriman where you’ll find a great deal of information on many more hiking trails as well as other outdoor adventures up and down the trail town corridor. The towns of Suffern, Hillburn, Sloatsburg and Tuxedo make up the Trail Town Corridor. Visit our Facebook page, Explore Harriman: Adventure in the Trail Town Corridor. You’ll learn interesting details on hiking, climbing and kayaking.
